The Way It Is: by Mark B. Sturgis
I spent some time talking with Dave Landeo on the phone the other day, and it would be easy to say that there are some very exciting things going on in his life. Playing constantly, Dave has done roughly 275 gigs in the past 12 months. Performing either his acoustic act or firing up the amps with his band, Dave has managed to keep his music fresh. Having been a full time musician for over six years now, that's a very special ability to have.
I asked him if he preferred his acoustic act or playing with his band, and both seem to win out. But he had this to say about his acoustic act, "To be able to hang out...at that place...at that time...on the planet...with people who just want to hear music, sing along, become uninhibited, makes it all the more special. The acoustic act allows me to share songs I've written with complete strangers who, through time, become stories in my life!"
Besides playing all the time and taking his guitar with him on some very special vacations, there are some other exciting things happening in Dave Landeo's musical career. Sometime around the 10th of February he and three investors will be opening Boogie's Good Times Bar and Grill. This establishment is going in the old Flamingo's building on Cumberland Avenue, and from just talking with Dave, I know this place will be better run than Flamingo's ever hoped to be. "We are going to have a slew of entertainment throughout the week. We are all excited about this and eager to give back to Knoxville so much of what we've learned from working in other bars."
Don't look for this new business venture to impede on Dave's schedule. As he states, "playing acoustic gives me the opportunity to play whenever, however, and whatever tune I desire!" Catch him at Garcia's on Thursdays (7-10), Julio's Between The Buns on Thursdays (10:30-2), and Rick's Place on Sundays (10-2). You also need to check out DavidLandeo.com! Good Luck!
